In a recent interview with “CBS Sunday Morning” to promote his new book, Patriots coach Bill Belichick discussed his love for football, his storied NFL coaching career, and quarterback Tom Brady, but didn’t seem interested in discussing two specific topics.
The first was Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
In his book “The Art of Winning,” which is scheduled to be released on May 6, Belichick does not mention Kraft once. Not in the acknowledgements section nor in any of the 15 chapters. Asked why Kraft was excluded, despite their 24 years working together in New England, Belichick didn’t elaborate.
“It’s about my life lessons in football,” he said in the eight-minute segment, which aired Sunday. “It’s really more about the ones that I experienced directly.”
Interviewer Tony Dokoupil then went back and forth regarding Belichick’s departure from the Patriots in January 2024.
“Do you feel like you were treated with dignity and respect when you were let go by Robert Kraft?” Dokoupil asked.
“Well, it was a mutual decision for us to part ways,” Belichick said.
“He said ‘fired,’” Dokoupil replied, referencing an October 2024 interview in which Kraft said he had to “fire” Belichick but tried to do so in “a classy way.”
“It was a mutual decision,” Belichick said again.
The second topic was Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, whom he calls his “creative muse.”
Asked about how he deals with all the attention on their relationship and conversation surrounding their age gap — he is 73, she is 24 — Belichick kept his answer short.
“I’ve never been too worried about what everybody else thinks,” he said. “Just try to do what I feel like is best for me and what’s right.”
When Dokoupil tried to ask how the couple met, Hudson chimed in from the side of the set to say: “He’s not talking about this.” (It has been reported that the two met on a plane.)
Dokoupil did not ask any additional questions about the couple specifically, but did ask about his new social media accounts. After decades of being off Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly known as Twitter), often degrading the sites to the media, Belichick is now active on social media. As is Hudson, who frequently shares photos of the two.
But Belichick still brushed off his involvement.
“So I’m on some of those social media platforms, but I honestly don’t follow,” he said.
The rest of the interview touched on Belichick’s football career, with mention of his father, Steve, his six Super Bowl championships with the Patriots, his relationship with the media, and his new job at North Carolina.
