Peter David, a self-described “writer of stuff,” has died at the age of 68. David had been in ill health for several years. His wife, Kathleen O’Shea David, confirmed news of his death on Facebook. “Since it is out there. Peter David passed away last night,” she wrote. “We are devastated. More when I can write about it.”

David is perhaps best known for his 12-year run on The Incredible Hulk. David’s take on Bruce Banner highlighted his inner struggles, making the Banner/Hulk divide more explicitly a super-powered version of dissociative identity disorder. His take on the character was integral to Ang Lee’s 2003 film. David won an Eisner in 1992 for the series. Besides the Hulk, David had highly-praised runs on Aquaman, Young Justice, Supergirl, and The Sensational Spider-Man.

Outside of comics, David also wrote novels and scripts for movies and television. David co-created Nickelodeon’s Space Cases, an early vehicle for Firefly and Family Law Jewel Staite. He also wrote episodes of Babylon 5, Young Justice, and Ben 10: Alien Force.
