Quarterfinal spots at the Indian Wells Masters will start being handed out on Tuesday, when the schedule is headlined by a showdown between Daniil Medvedev and Tommy Paul. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune are also in action.
(10) Tommy Paul vs. (5) Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev and Paul will be squaring off for the fifth time in their careers when they collide in round four of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday. The head-to-head series stands at 3-1 in favor of Medvedev, but only once has he defeated Paul in straight sets and the American dominated their most recent encounter 6-1, 6-4 at the 2024 Rome Masters.Indian Wells isn’t quite clay, but it’s about as close as you can get when it comes to hard courts. That isn’t to Medvedev’s liking, although the sixth-ranked Russian has reached back-to-back finals (lost to Carlos Alcaraz both times) and crushed Bu Yunchaokete 6-2, 6-2 on Friday before getting a retirement from Alex Michelsen after just two games. Paul has been in outstanding form dating back to 2024 and it has continued with straight-set wins over Tristan Boyer and 2021 Indian Wells champion Cameron Norrie. With home-court advantage and a favorable surface, the No. 10 seed should be able to advance.
Pick: Paul in 3
(12) Holger Rune vs. (8) Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitisipas struggled in 2024, but he is turning things around with a title in Dubai and a pair of victories in Indian Wells. The ninth-ranked Greek beat Karen Khachanov, Matteo Berrettini, and Felix Auger-Aliassime on his way to the Dubai trophy and so far this fortnight he has ousted both Berrettini and Thiago Seyboth Wild in straight sets.
Up next for Tsitsipas is a fourth meeting with Rune, who is sweeping the head-to-head series 3-0. However, they have not completed a match against each other since 2022 (a 2023 Nitto ATP Finals affair ended with a retirement by Tsitsipas after just two games). The 13th-ranked Dane has done well to defeat Corentin Moutet and Ugo Humbert in the desert (the latter 5-7, 6-4, 7-5), but he is still a modest 8-6 for his 2025 campaign. Tsitsipas is in superior form and the Indian Wells conditions are pretty much ideal for his game, so look for him to get over the hump against Rune.
