Is ‘Castle Impossible’ HGTV’s Most Ambitious Renovation Show Yet?

If there’s a historic French castle involved, you can count us in. Add a high-stakes renovation into the mix and we’re totally sold! Luckily, this isn’t just a fairytale—it’s HGTV’s new series called Castle Impossible (and our soon-to-be favorite show).

Hosts and high school sweethearts Daphne Reckert and Ian Figueira are trading in their California tiny home for something much more grand. Unlike most of us, Daphne inherited her late grandfather’s 500-year-old chateau. Nestled on 130 acres just outside of Paris, France, the estate is about to undergo some serious renovations in the upcoming season.

What is Castle Impossible about?

For a little background, the chateau once welcomed royalty (King Louis XIII, to be exact) and now helps provide the couple with steady income by renting out the main floor for weddings and events. The rest of the estate could certainly use some TLC, though.

That’s where the married couple comes in. Daphne and Ian are putting their carpentry, conservation, and landscaping skills to the test as they tackle the estate’s other floors. With family backgrounds in construction, renovation, and design, they’ll face everything from tight budgets and bug infestations to rumored hidden treasure and an endless to-do list.

“Our lives changed forever when I inherited my grandfather’s 500-year-old chateau in France. If we don’t keep up the renovations, the chateau will become a ruin,” said Daphne. “We don’t exactly have a financial safety net,” adds Ian.
