Jared Leto’s Tron: Ares Brings the Grid to the Real World and Teases Jeff Bridges’ Return: Watch the Trailer

The first trailer for Tron: Ares has officially been uploaded.

Disney released a look at the sci-fi sequel, which marks the third film in the Tron franchise following the 1982 original and the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy, on Saturday, April 5.

In the minute-and-a-half-long clip, the real world and the video game world collide, before original film star Jeff Bridges can be heard in a voiceover asking, “Ready? Cause there’s no going back,” as lead star Jared Leto is seen onscreen. (Bridges, 75, played the original protagonist Kevin Flynn.)

Alongside Leto, 53, and Bridges, the film also stars Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, Arturo Castro, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith and Gillian Anderson.

The movie features an advanced program, called Ares, who breaks free from the digital world and enters the real one to pursue the ends of a dangerous mission. Tron: Ares marks “humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings,” a February 2024 announcement from Disney teased.

Leto, who plays the villainous Ares, told PEOPLE in August 2024 that Tron: Ares will comment on “the culture and the technology of the times that we’re living in.”

The star said he was a fan of the franchise long before his big role in the third film, explaining, “I mean, I must have seen the first Tron a couple dozen times growing [up].”

He added, “I loved — I still love — Tron. It was a pleasure when I was researching and kind of developing the character to visit the first film and the second film multiple times, and that was really fun for me as a kid.”

The first film follows video game creator Flynn, who hacks into his former employer’s computer and enters the game he is designing. The protagonist then “matches wits with a maniacal Master Control Program and teams up with TRON, a security measure created to bring balance to the digital environment.”

The second film sees Flynn’s son abscond after him into cyberspace, where they “take on a rogue hacking program and wage the ultimate battle of good versus evil.”

“I’m excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world,” director Joaquim Rønning said in a previous statement. “Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

Tron: Ares is in theaters on Oct. 10.
