Joey Logano won the Würth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH

Joey Logano only led for seven of the 267 laps, but it was enough to win the Wurth 400 race in overtime Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.

The victory was his first of the season and secures him and Team Penske a spot in the NASCAR playoffs and a chance to defend his 2024 Cup Series championship.

It was the 37th win of Logano’s career, and post-race, he explained the move he made to pass Michael McDowell that helped him secure the win.

“My only chance was getting a run at [turns] one and two, and at the lap before that, I almost had it. I was like, okay, I’m just gonna go to the opposite he went to the bottom again, and I got into the center. I said, Yep, this is it. this is the run,” said Logano, “I didn’t want to be outside, and he definitely wanted the bottom and I went all the way to the inside wall, I’m gonna get there, He’s just gonna have to give me some space here eventually, or we’re going to both wreck. So there was a heck of a battle there and then raced my teammate there for the win at the end. Just a good battle, right? I mean, we fought all day long with this triple-A Mustang… very proud of the team to battle through the adversity.”

Logano edged out Ross Chastain, who took second place. The remainder of the top five is listed below.

1. Joey Logano

2. Ross Chastain

3. Ryan Blaney

4. Kyle Larson

5. Erik Jones

Despite winning last year’s title, Logano has struggled this season no top five finishes and only one top ten finish on the season coming into Sunday’s race.

Crew chief Paul Wolfe explained what the victory meant after the early-season struggles.

“It’s been a bit of a struggle this year to get the results that I feel like we’ve shown the speed, but we haven’t put it all together, and it was nice to just have a nice, solid day and be able to find victory lane,” said Wolfe.

Chase Elliott, who won the event in 2024, finished 16th place, and last week’s winner, Austin Cindric, led the race for 60 laps before finishing 25th.

The next NASCAR Cup Series race will be the 2025 ADVENTHEALTH 400 at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday, May 11.
