Jon Hamm‘s monologue on “Saturday Night Live” was a self-deprecating bit about the slew of cameos he has had on the show through the years, and was interrupted by his frenemy Kieran Culkin.
“I know a cameo may seem inconsequential, but it really is an important part of the show,” Hamm said. “Like when a sketch needs that little something extra to take it from a medium sketch to a marginally better than a medium sketch, or when a monologue is feeling aimless and it needs a jolt of energy.”
Culkin then enters the stage in a meta moment.
“What are you even doing here? This is my monologue,” Hamm said.
“I know, I’m just making a cameo,” Culkin said
“Why? I’m a huge star and I’m doing really well all by myself,” Hamm replied.
Hamm then demands Culkin’s Oscar and the two squabble about if “Mad Men” is better than “Succession.”
Culkin is currently in New York City because of his starring role in Broadway’s “Death of a Salesman.”
Hamm spoke with Kristen Wiig about the fast-paced nature of the “SNL” last year during a conversation for Variety‘s Actors on Actors.
“I hosted three times in two years and then never again,” he said. “The fun part of ‘SNL’ — one time I was hosting, and we both had quick changes next to each other. And you’re like, ‘Get ready,’ and then we’re both naked. They’re literally tearing clothes off of you. You just have to go with it.”
