Those mourning the lack of chicken strips at McDonald’s restaurants have finally been heard. On May 5, McCrispy Strips will debut on McDonald’s menus nationwide.
Though this is a resurrection of sorts, McCrispy Strips are a new recipe and the Golden Arches’ first addition to the permanent menu since 2021. McCrispy Strips are made with 100 percent white meat and have a crispy, golden breading with a bold black pepper flavor. McDonald’s is also bringing on a new sauce, Creamy Chili Dip.
McDonald’s offered Chicken Selects for over a decade before discontinuing them, then briefly added Buttermilk Crispy Tenders to the menu. According to Today, chicken strips haven’t been available at McDonald’s in any form since 2020.
Leaders at McDonald’s acknowledge there is a big demand for more chicken. “The demand for chicken strips has been remarkable to see across the industry, so we knew we had to deliver something so craveable that it was worth the wait,” Chief Marketing Officer Alyssa Buetikofer said in a statement. “We took our time, listened to our fans and created a product we knew they would crave.”
She adds that “the best part is we’re just getting started,” which makes us wonder if we’ll see more chicken recipes pop up at McDonald’s this year. President and CEO Chris Kempczinski has already said that the popular Snack Wrap will return in 2025, but we’re still waiting to hear when.
