Mets’ Carlos Mendoza Announces Major Injury News Before Diamondbacks Game

The New York Mets are off to a sensational start to the 2025 season. After giving out the biggest contract in professional sports history to Juan Soto, owner Steve Cohen has been rewarded with the best team in baseball through 29 games. His Mets currently sit at 20-9 and have a 4.5 game lead over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East division.

Their start seems improbable when considering the number of key players that have already missed time due to injury. But the resilient Mets have powered through, and will need to continue doing so after the latest injury news.

Left-handed relief pitcher A.J. Minter exited his last outing with an apparent injury. The team later announced he was dealing with a left lat strain, assigning him to the 15-day injured list as a result.

The updates have only gotten worse for Minter since the initial injury designation, as he now could be facing season-ending surgery, per manager Carlos Mendoza.

“Season-ending surgery is a possibility for A.J. Minter, Carlos Mendoza said, though that’s not certain yet,” Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote on X.

Despite a flurry of injuries in the early part of the season, the Mets lead all of MLB with a 2.62 cumulative ERA. Both their rotation (2.29 ERA) and bullpen (3.07 ERA) have been superb, and individually, both rank top seven in baseball.

As they begin a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Mets will need to continue finding ways to win in the absence of key players.
