Mpouma felt a “home feeling” while visiting the Florida Gators

Over the weekend, the Florida Gators hosted prospects on campus to visit with the coaches as well as watch spring practice on Saturday.

Offensive lineman Claude Mpouma (6-7, 308, Chicago, IL. Mount Carmel) was on campus for two days and had the chance to see everything Florida has to offer.

“It was great,” Mpouma said. “I got to have a little tour of the facilities on Friday and then met a couple of coaches and had meeting with them. On Saturday, I had the chance to watch the practice so everything was good. I can’t complain.”

Mpouma says he watched the offensive line closely on Saturday and they impressed, and he liked how that position was coached.

“Practice was good,” he said of practice. “The coaches know what they’re doing, the players are focused too. It’s pretty good to see the high competitive environment which is what we like.”

Offensive line coaches John Decoster and Rob Sale met with Mpouma several times during the visit and explained to him what they like about his game.

“They told me that I was exactly the type of player they like even though I’m still a raw product,” Mpouma said of his talks with Decoster and Sale. “They believe they can help me with my development and make me the best player I can be. They believe that I’m the perfect fit for Florida at tackle.”

Meeting with head coach Billy Napier was a highlight for Mpouma and he liked what the head coach had to say.

“That was a great discussion, pretty cool guy, I like him,” he said on his talks with Napier. “He was telling me that he watched some of my film and he really liked it what he seen, and he liked how I play. He really wants me to be a part of his program.”

This was the first time Mpouma visited Gainesville, and he says he got the feeling of home from Gainesville.

“Yes, it did,” Mpouma said if this visit helped Florida’s chances. “I like how they’re giving me a chance to be a part of what they have going on, so that’s a big thing. Also, I like the environment, I’m a warm weather type of person, and being in the warm weather brings me some calm memories. I feel like being in Florida gave me kind of the feeling of home when I was there.”

The Gators did enough during this visit to secure an official visit, and Mpouma says several other schools are recruiting him hard.

“June 16th,” he said on when he will take an official visit to Florida. “I have Nebraska on June 20th and then Auburn. Ohio State, Michigan, and Nebraska are a couple of schools that are still recruiting me.”
