Newly released videos in Delphi murders case include Richard Allen’s interrogations, confessions

DELPHI, Ind. (WNDU) – The public is hearing from convicted Delphi murderer Richard Allen for the first time after newly released videos include his pre-arrest interrogations and confessions he made to his family in prison phone calls.

Allen was sentenced this past December to 130 years in prison for killing 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German back in February 2017. He wasn’t arrested until five and a half years later on Oct. 26, 2022.

According to our sister station WTHR, two videos shared by YouTuber Tom Webster show Allen being interrogated by police on Oct. 13, 2022, and the day of his arrest. Both videos are about an hour and a half long.

In the Oct. 13, 2022, interrogation video, Allen denied being involved in the girls’ deaths while talking with investigators about being on the Monon High Bridge the day they disappeared.

“Basically, this. Either you were out there to do this to the girls, or you were out there to be able to introduce the girls to somebody else.” – Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator Steve Mullin

“OK, good luck finding anything that points in that direction. I mean, it’s not me. You’re not going to make me believe it’s me. You’re not going to find anything that ties me to those murders. So, I’m not really that concerned. You know, you went from trying to, I don’t know what you want to say, get my trust and then slowly lure me into telling you I killed somebody, and I’m not going to do it.” – Richard Allen

As for the Oct. 26, 2022, interrogation, WTHR says the focus included witness testimony and evidence, including an unspent bullet found at the scene that investigators linked to a gun belonging to Allen.

“There is no way that evidence is going to show that I did this.” – Richard Allen

“It’s right f—ing here, Rick,” – Indiana State Police Investigator Jerry Holeman

“You got one piece of evidence that I can’t explain.” – Richard Allen

“I got multiple pieces. Multiple. I’m not showing you my whole f—ing hand here” – Jerry Holeman

“I don’t care. I’m telling you, I’m done talking.” – Richard Allen

Once again, Allen denied any involvement with the killings during this interrogation.

“This is your opportunity” – Jerry Holeman

“Can you please stop giving me opportunities. I’m not going to sit here and tell you something I didn’t do. I’m not going to I’m involved with something that I wasn’t involved with.” – Richard Allen

“Tell me what you did do that day.” – Jerry Holeman

“I did not murder two little girls” – Richard Allen

“What did you do?” – Jerry Holeman

“I went for a walk on the trail, and I went home.” – Richard Allen

Meanwhile, a third video includes phone conversations between Allen, his wife and his mother while he was in prison. According to WTHR, it features eight phone calls that take place between Nov. 14, 2022, and June 11, 2023.

The confessions were played during Allen’s trial this past fall, but it’s the first time the public is able to listen to them.

Allen’s lawyers have argued that he did not make the confessions voluntarily.

Last month, attorneys filed a notice to appeal Allen’s conviction.
