Leroy Butler, Mark Murphy, pass torch on the NFL Draft to Pittsburgh

Rashad Alexander

“They are the best fans in all of professional sports,” said Mark Murphy, CEO of the Green Bay Packers, when he took the stage to close out the 2025 NFL Draft. Packer great and Hall of Famer Leroy Butler joined Murphy on stage and handed off next year’s draft to Dan Rooney, director of business development and strategy for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Murphy will retire from his position in July, the same month he turns 70, reaching the mandatory retirement age. Fans cheered “Thank you, Mark” as he spoke on stage.

Murphy also acknowledged drafting Matthew Golden in the first round, who was the first wide receiver taken by the Packers in the first round in 23 years.

“Having Golden come to the green and gold is pretty good,” Murphy said.

One of the on-stage hosts of the NFL Draft referred to Green Bay draft as a “tough act to follow.”

NFL Draft attendance in Green Bay tops 600,000, per ESPN broadcast

Christopher Kuhagen

Green Bay certainly didn’t look like the NFL’s smallest market over the last three days during the 2025 NFL Draft.

It shattered attendance projections as the host of the draft with over 600,000 people attending the historic event across the last three days, according to the ESPN broadcast on April 26, the final day of the event.

Entering the draft, officials expected about 250,000 fans.

But it was clear early on Green Bay would surpass that number. About 205,000 fans attended the first night on April 25, followed by another 175,000 fans for Day 2.

Green Bay’s total makes it the second-highest total in draft history behind only Detroit, which had 775,000 people attend its draft in 2024.

Crowds were enormous throughout the week with drone views on the broadcast showing a sea of people in and around Lambeau Field.

Steelers International Fan of the Year gives Green Bay, Wisconsin Badgers shoutout at draft

Did Shedeur Sanders get drafted?

Christopher Kuhagen

Shedeur Sanders is still without a team.

It wasn’t long ago that Sanders was projected to be among the top players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft and listed as one of the top quarterbacks in this class.

Now, the former Colorado star hasn’t even been picked in the first three rounds as team after team continues to pass over him in one of the most stunning developments in recent draft history. His slide in the draft even got a response from President Donald Trump.

Sanders was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year last year after throwing for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Sanders began his college career at HBCU’s Jackson State before helping put Colorado football on the map in the last two seasons. He was coached by his father and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders at both Jackson State and Colorado.

Shedeur Sanders has been watching the draft with his family in Texas.

“Thank you GOD for EVERYTHING,” Sanders wrote on X after the third round on April 25.
