It was almost inevitable after what we saw during Notre Dame football’s spring game, that one of the three quarterbacks would move on, and on Thursday it was Steve Angeli that entered the transfer portal according to CBS Sports Matt Zenitz.
The junior from New Jersey had sat behind two starters as he waited for his turn to run the Irish offense, but that opportunity never really presented itself. While he did start the 2023 Sun Bowl, leading Notre Dame to a 40-8 win over Oregon State with three passing touchdowns, head coach Marcus Freeman still ended up bringing in transfer Riley Leonard for the next year.

Although it turned out to be the right move, Angeli played a huge part in the Irish’s College Football Playoff victory over Penn State, subbing in for Leonard following an injury, guiding the Irish to a field goal just before the first half ended. Those three points ended up being huge, as that was the margin of victory for Notre Dame.
Unfortunately, with two younger players in CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey looking much better this spring, Angeli saw the writing on the wall and will move on from the program. We wish him the best of luck as he continues his collegiate career elsewhere.
