Padres win streak tracker: San Diego’s streak ends at 7 games after loss to Cubs

The San Diego Padres’ hot streak has come to an end, with the team earning its first loss of the season against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

The loss came after the Padres started the 2025 season with seven straight wins in their first two series against the Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Guardians. The team has been buoyed by strong offensive showings from Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Gavin Sheets and Jackson Merrill, whom the Padres signed to a nine-year, $135 million extension on Wednesday.

San Diego had a chance to keep the streak going on Friday: After going down 3-1 to Chicago, the Padres had two men on base at the top of the ninth, with second baseman Jake Cronenworth coming up to the plate. But Cronenworth struck out swinging, and the Cubs pulled off the win in their home opener, ending San Diego’s streak at seven.

This streak equals the Padres’ longest winning streak during the 2024 season, in which they finished second in the NL West behind the Dodgers, who are off to an 8-0 start. The Tampa Bay Rays tied the record for most wins to begin a season with 13 in 2023.
