PEGGY O’KEEFE, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, WAS QUITE EMOTIONAL AS SHE TOOK THE WITNESS STAND YESTERDAY AND TOLD THE JURY ABOUT THE MORNING THAT HER SON DIED. PROSECUTORS PROJECTED A PHOTO OF THE BOSTON POLICE OFFICER IN THE COURTROOM. AS PEGGY O’KEEFE WAS TALKING ABOUT. JANUARY 29TH, 2022. SHE DESCRIBED SEEING HER SON’S BODY AT THE HOSPITAL. SHE ALSO TALKED ABOUT CROSSING PATHS WITH KAREN READ. AS I’M WALKING DOWN, I HEAR KAREN READ YELL, PEG, IS HE DEAD? IS HE DEAD, PEG. PEG. IS HE DEAD? AND I JUST KEPT WALKING. AND THEN I ASKED, I DON’T KNOW WHO IT WAS, A NURSE OR A A WORKER AT THE HOSPITAL. AND I SAID, WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE? AND SHE SAID, OH, SHE’S BEING PSYCH EVALUATED. A paramedic who took Karen Read to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after her boyfriend was found in the snow outside a Canton, Massachusetts, home in 2022, will return to the stand Thursday as her retrial in his death enters its third day. On Wednesday, John O’Keefe’s mother, Peggy, gave emotional testimony about the morning her son died.Prosecutors projected a photo of the Boston police officer in the courtroom as Peggy O’Keefe talked about Jan. 29, 2022. She described seeing her son’s body at the hospital. She also talked about crossing paths with Read.”As I’m walking down, I hear Karen Read yell, ‘Peg, is he dead? Is he dead, Peg? Peg, is he dead?’ And I just kept walking and I asked, ‘What is she doing here?’ and she says, ‘Oh, she’s being psych evaluated.’ So then they brought us down to the room where my son was. He’s bruised up, his eyes were closed. It was just not a good scene,” Peggy O’Keefe said.Neither of John O’Keefe’s parents testified last year during Read’s first trial.John O’Keefe’s friend, Kerry Roberts, testified she got a call from Read saying “he’s dead” before he was found.
