The New England Patriots decided to make one final trade in the 2025 NFL Draft, sliding down in the seventh round in return for two picks. The first of those at No. 251 overall has been invested in a long snapper: Julian Ashby out of Vanderbilt is a Patriot now.
Ashby spent the first four seasons of his career at Furman, before transferring to Vanderbilt for his final year of eligibility. He is the first long snapper to hear his name called in the draft since 2021.
Ashby is the 10th player drafted by the Patriots this year. They started out by selecting offensive tackle Will Campbell fourth overall in the first round, followed by second-round running back TreVeyon Henderson and third-rounders WR Kyle Williams and C Jared Wilson.
On Saturday, New England added several players in all three phases. Safety Craig Woodson and defensive tackle Joshua Farmer were drafted in Round 4; edge Bradyn Swinson was added to the mix in Round 5; kicker Andres Borregales was picked in Round 6; offensive tackle Marcus Bryant heard his name called earlier in Round 7.
The Patriots’ final pick will also be the last pick in this year’s NFL Draft: at No. 257, they will get to choose this year’s Mr. Irrelevant.
