Pa. special election results: 35th state House and 36th state Senate

FLOOR FOR VOTE. AND IN THE 35TH DISTRICT, THAT’S SOUTHEAST OF PITTSBURGH. DEMOCRATS ARE HOLDING ON TO THE SEAT IN THE STATE HOUSE RACE. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS HAS CALLED THE RACE FOR DAN VOGENAUER. SO LOOKING AT THE RESULTS RIGHT NOW, WITH 99% OF THE PRECINCTS REPORTING, DAN VOGENAUER TAKES 63% OF THE VOTE, HAS A LITTLE MORE THAN 6700 VOTES THERE. CHARLES DAVIS BEHIND HIM WITH 35% OF THE VOTE. Pennsylvania had two special elections on March 25, 2025. They are for the 36th state Senate District in Lancaster County and the 35th state House District in western Pennsylvania. The latter race decided the balance of power in the state House. We’ll be tracking results for both of special elections below:Balance of powerIn the state House, voters in District 35, southeast of Pittsburgh, elected a replacement for Democratic state Rep. Matt Gergely, whose death in January left the parties tied at 101 seats each.The Associated Press has called the race for Democrat Dan Goughnour, keeping the party in control by a single vote. He’s a McKeesport school board member and a police officer.He was challenged by Republican Chuck Davis, who’s president of the White Oak Borough Council and a volunteer firefighter. Libertarian Adam Kitta was also on the ballot.Democratic candidates have a strong track record in the Allegheny County-based state House district. Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris carried the district with about 58% of the vote in the 2024 presidential election, compared with about 42% for President Donald Trump.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
