- The couple last attended the gala in 2021, where they wore matching Western-inspired Chanel cowboy shirts and pants
Not only is Pharrell Williams serving as one of the 2025 Met Gala co-chairs, but he’s also serving looks with wife Helen Lasichanh on the red carpet.
The couple arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 5, wearing complementary outfits. The music legend, 52, designed his own sparkling double-breasted blazer made of 100,000 pearls, per Vogue. The look, made with the help of Williams’ team at Louis Vuitton, totaled 980 hours of work. He wore the piece over a white button-down and black tie. He kept the rest of the look classy, opting for a pair of black flared trousers and matching shoes.
Meanwhile, Lasichanh, 44, wore a black leather corset top and tights with a Louis Vuitton branded pattern. Draped over her shoulder was a dark blazer. In her hands, she held a fur Louis Vuitton speedy bag.
“To me, dandyism is about intentionality—a sport of getting dressed,” Williams told Vogue of his look’s connection to this year’s Met Gala theme. “It’s not just about dressing well; it’s about using style as a form of self-expression and freedom. Pearls have become a part of that for me, which is why I created a pearl double-breasted jacket for this look.”
On the carpet, Williams told Variety that “the Black men of the working class” served as fashion icons for this theme.
“They do the hard work, but then when it’s time to get fresh, they get dandy and Superfine,” he told the outlet. “I’m inspired by the working class because that’s where I come from.”

In October 2024, Vogue announced Williams as a co-chair, along with Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Anna Wintour, as well as LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code — which is slightly different from the theme — is “Tailored for You.” It is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The gala also has a star-studded host committee: Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, as well as Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher.

Ahead of the event, Williams spoke to Vogue about the importance of this year’s theme in elevating Black voices.
“I want it to feel like the most epic night of power, a reflection of Black resiliency in a world that continues to be colonized, by which I mean policies and legislation that are nothing short of that,” he said.
“That’s why it’s so important to me to have successful Black and brown people of every stripe in the room: not just athletes and actors and actresses, entertainers, but also authors, architects, folks from the fintech world. We’ve got to invest in each other. We’ve got to connect with each other, because it’s going to take everybody to coalesce the force of Black and brown genius into one strong, reliable force. It’s our turn.”

Williams and Lasichanh last climbed the Met Gala’s iconic steps in 2021. To celebrate the theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” the couple wore matching western-inspired Chanel cowboy shirts and pants. The glossy black leather outfits featured white piping. Matching boots with gold toes finished the looks. To accessorize, Williams sported a jewel-encrusted bolo tie.
On the carpet, the music producer confirmed to broadcast host Keke Palmer that the clothing came from Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Paris-Dallas 2013/14 Métiers d’Art Show on Dec. 13, 2013.
This year is not Williams’ first time co-chairing fashion’s biggest night. In 2017, he led the event honoring “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” He rocked an all-Comme des Garçons look featuring a plaid shirt, black leather jacket and a pair of custom ripped jeans that read “Rei” — a nod to the designer. Meanwhile, Lasichanh wore a bright red sculptural onesie that Kawakubo personally picked out for her.

But Chanel and Comme des Garçons aren’t the only fashion houses Williams has worked closely with. In February 2023, Williams was named men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton. He replaced Virgil Abloh following his death.

“Pharrell Williams is a visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion – establishing himself as a cultural global icon over the past twenty years,” the brand wrote on Instagram on Feb. 14, 2023. “The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship.”
During his debut show in June 2023, both his family and celebrities came out to show their support.
