The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ quarterback options have dwindled after an available Pro Bowler signed elsewhere on the first day of NFL free agency.
Sam Darnold reached an agreement on Monday with the Seattle Seahawks on a three-year, $110.5 million deal with $55 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Darnold, after starring for the Minnesota Vikings last season, was a reported target for the Steelers. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Sunday that Pittsburgh was expected to extend an offer to Darnold, who was a Pro Bowler in 2024.
Darnold, after flailing with the New York Jets earlier in his career, was excellent last season in Minnesota. He led the Vikings to a 14-3 record while earning a few MVP votes. Darnold threw for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Seattle is bringing Darnold onboard after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Seahawks are reshaping their offense this offseason, which included dealing star wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Steelers on Sunday night.
With Darnold going to Seattle and Justin Fields signing with the Jets, the Steelers might turn to Aaron Rodgers to be the team’s quarterback for 2025.
