PONTE VEDRA BEACH—Jason Day was a late WD from the Players Championship on Thursday morning.
Day, who captured the tour’s flagship event at TPC Sawgrass in 2016, was slotted in a featured group for Thursday with Jordan Spieth and Wyndham Clark for 8:46 a.m. However, about two hours before tee off, the PGA Tour announced that Day had pulled out of the championship, citing illness.
The No. 33 player in the world was off to a strong start in 2025, finishing T-3 at the American Express and contending last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, still managing a T-8 at Bay Hill despite a stumble down the closing stretch.
Day will be replaced in the field by Danny Walker. The 29-year-old rookie has made the weekend in two of four starts this season.
