Portuguese international and recipient of multiple Golden Boots, Cristiano Ronaldo has teased his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in a social media message on the platform X and Instagram, just 30 minutes after his side’s final Saudi Pro League game of the season ended in a 3-2 defeat.

In the short statement Ronaldo wrote: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” alongside a picture of him wearing the Al-Nassr strip.

Ronaldo penned a deal with the club at the end of 2022, making his debut in January 2023. He is currently in receipt of the highest salary ever in soccer, at €200 million per year.

The social media post by the 40-year-old arrived around 30 minutes after the final whistle was blown in a 3-2 away loss to Al Fateh that will see them maintain their third place league position and Ronaldo claim top goal scorer for the season.

Ronaldo was hoping to help Al-Nassr qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite, after the club won an appeal for fielding an ineligible player in a game in March, but the loss, combined with a win for second placers Al-Hilal will see the Riyadh-based club miss out on the international competition.

Last week FIFA president Gianni Infantino claimed “discussions” were happening over a move which would allow Ronaldo to feature in the Club World Cup this summer.

Al Nassr failed to qualify for the 32-team tournament and Infantino’s remark in discussion with YouTuber IShowSpeed sparked speculation over Ronaldo’s future, especially as FIFA this year introduced an additional transfer window between June 1 and June 10.

It is designed to allow clubs to register players for the Club World Cup and Ronaldo’s signature could be up for grabs after two-and-a-half-years at Al Nassr.
