Sources: Alan Huss to return to Creighton Bluejays as Greg McDermott’s successor

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Creighton is bringing back Alan Huss to the Bluejays basketball program likely to serve as “head coach-in-waiting,” sources told First Alert 6 on Thursday.

Sources said Greg McDermott is expected to coach the Jays next season.

Huss has been the head coach at High Point in North Carolina for the past two seasons. He just signed a contract extension with the Panthers on March 6, shortly before his team’s game in the NCAA Tournament.

In bringing in Alan Huss as coach-in-waiting, Greg McDermott secures the future of Creighton men’s basketball with one of its own.

Huss — who played for Creighton from 1997-2001 — worked as an assistant under McDermott for six years prior to taking his first Division 1 head coaching position with High Point in 2023.

In his two seasons as High Point’s head coach, Huss led the Panthers to a 56-15 overall record, a pair of regular season Big South Conference championships, and the program’s first-ever March Madness berth.
