Stefanos Tsitsipas will be facing Lorenzo Musetti at the 2025 ATP Madrid Open’s round of 16 at the Caja Magica in Madrid, Spain. After receiving a bye in the first round, 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti and 17th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas both advanced to the second round. In that round, Musetti defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets, while Tsitsipas won over Jan-Lennard Struff after losing the first set.
Tsitsipas has experienced a mix of highs and lows this season, with an early exit at the Australian Open followed by a quarterfinal finish at ATP Rotterdam. He did win the Dubai Tennis Championship title, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. But his form dipped afterward with back-to-back quarterfinal exits, first at the Monte Carlo Masters, upset by Musetti, and then at the Barcelona Open, losing to Arthur Fils.
In contrast, Musetti is in peak form, achieving a career-high ATP ranking of No. 11 after his run to the Monte Carlo Masters final. Although he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final, Musetti’s climb included notable wins over Alex de Minaur, Tsitsipas, and Matteo Berrettini.
Stefanos Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head against Lorenzo Musetti with a record of 5-1. Their rivalry began at the 2021 Abierto Mexicano Telcel (Acapulco) semifinal, where Tsitsipas defeated Musetti in a dominant straight-set victory. A few months later, at the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon semifinal, Tsitsipas won again, this time in a comeback win after losing the first set.
The following year, Italian looked driven to take the lead at the French Open’s Round of 128, as Tsitsipas dropped the first two sets, but in a stunning turnaround, Tsitsipas won the next three sets. Their rivalry continued in 2023, with the Greek securing wins at both the ATP Masters 1000 Rome’s Round of 16 and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell semifinals.

Given his 118-37 career win-loss record on clay, Tsitsipas will be counting on his strong clay-court game at the Madrid Open. However, Musetti is not far behind either, as he is currently in the middle of his best season to date and has a strong 7-1 clay court record.
