Tennis Tracker: Rybakina downs Andreescu in Madrid as Pegula cruises through

We are set for another busy day of tennis at the Madrid Open with the likes of Casper Ruud, Aryna Sabalenka and Holger Rune all in action. Follow all the Friday action with Flashscore’s Tennis Tracker.

23:25 CET – That’ll be all from our coverage of the Madrid Open this Friday! Be sure to tune in tomorrow for another fantastic day of action!

22:58 CET – In the final match of the day, Elena Rybakina was far too good for Bianca Andreescu, with the Kazakh coming out on top, 6-3, 6-2, in a battle of Grand Slam champions.

21:28 CET – Some disappointing news for the fans in Madrid, as last week’s Barcelona champion Holger Rune has had to retire from his match against Flavio Cobolli with an injury after losing the first set 6-2.

21:21 CET – Alejandro Davidovich Fokina continues to prove why he is such an excellent clay-court player, taking just under an hour and a quarter to defeat Nuno Borges, 6-2, 6-3.

20:25 CET – World No. 3 Jessica Pegula is enjoying a brilliant 2025, and the American continued her fine form with a clinical 6-2, 6-2 defeat of German Eva Lys in the second round.

19:07 CET – Ben Shelton was in a really precarious position, trailing 6-4, 5-3 against Argentine Mariano Navone. But in the end, the American mounted a tremendous comeback to eventually seal a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 win.

18:53 CET – Ukrainian 24th seed Marta Kostyuk has got the better of Emma Raducanu, outlasting her British opponent, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in Madrid.

18:05 CET – World number 153 Rebeka Masarova has just clinched a great win over 22nd seed Yulia Putintseva, defeating the Kazakh in relatively simple fashion, 6-3, 6-3.

17:20 CET – Brandon Nakashima, the 31st seed in Madrid, has broken a run of three straight losses to see off Sebastian Ofner in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(3).

16:49 CET – A shock of sorts as we head into the evening in Spain, as Anastasia Potapova has downed eighth seed Qinwen Zheng in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to set up a third-round match with Sofia Kenin.

16:38 CET – Elise Mertens is the next player to soar through in Madrid, proving to be too strong in a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Camila Osorio.

16:28 CET – Number three seed Taylor Fritz was in ruthless form in his second-round match, brushing aside Christopher O’Connell, 6-1, 6-4.

16:25 CET – Amanda Anisimova has been stunned in the Spanish capital! The 15th seed, who has had a really good 2025 so far, was beaten in a really exciting contest, falling 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 to fellow American Peyton Stearns.

16:10 CET – Elina Svitolina had very little issue dealing with Sonay Kartal, dispatching the British player, 6-3, 6-1 in Madrid.

There was also an easy win for former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, coasting into the third round after beating Lulu Sun6-3, 6-2.

15:47 CET – Top seed Alexander Zverev has continued his recent good form, with the German cruising past Roberto Bautista-Agut in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

That’s now six consecutive wins for Zverev after picking up the title in Munich last week.

15:32 CET – Czech teenager Jakub Mensik is through in Madrid after battling through a tough opening set to defeat Ethan Quinn 7-6(4), 6-1.

15:17 CET – Ons Jabeur is out of the Madrid Open! The Tunisian, who has struggled for form all year, fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the hands of Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima.

On the men’s side of the draw, Sebastian Korda has booked his place in the third round, with the American recovering from a second-set wobble to overcome Federico Cina 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

14:49 CET – Alexander Bublik and Juan Manuel Cerundolo are through to the third round in Madrid after straight-set victories over Alexei Popyrin and Felix Auger-Aliassime respectively.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side of the tournament, Ekaterina Alexandrova has progressed via a 6-3, 6-4 win against the in-form Olga Danilovic.

14:09 CET – Top seed Aryna Sabalenka is safely through to the third round after a relatively routine 6-3, 6-4 victory over Anna Blinkova.

The Belarusian has now won 12 of her last 13 matches in Madrid as she targets a third title at the Masters 1000 event.

Elsewhere, Veronika Kudermetova has also progressed, with the Russian recovering from a set down to outlast Cristina Bucsa 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-5.

13:03 CET – There has been a big upset this afternoon, with 13th seed Arthur Fills being stunned by Argentine Francisco Comesana, 7-6(4), 6-4. A disappointing result for the Frenchman after a good few weeks in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, especially considering he was 5-1 up in the first set.

Meanwhile, Maria Sakkari has clinched a really important and impressive win, battling past Magda Linette, 7-6(5), 6-3.

12:41 CET – Daria Kasatkina is the next player to move through in Madrid with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Alycia Parks.

Clay-court specialist Francisco Cerundolo also booked a spot in the third round, easing to a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 win against Harold Mayot.

12:38 CET – Ninth seed Daniil Medvedev has moved into the third round without even having to pick up a racket after his opponent Laslo Djere withdrew from their clash.

12:34 CET – No problems for Casper Ruud in Madrid, after the Norwegian eased past Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, 6-3, 6-4.

A bad return to the Tour for Hubert Hurkacz, however. The Pole, who hasn’t been in action since Indian Wells in March, was defeated by Benjamin Bonzi, 6-4, 7-5.

12:14 CET – Sixth seed Jasmine Paolini has cruised into the third round in the Spanish capital, with the Italian dismantling Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-2 in just 61 minutes.

It’s a 16th win of 2025 for Paolini, who will face either Maria Sakkari or Magda Linette next.

11:00 CET – We are a few minutes from the start of play in Madrid, but bad news for the home crowd, as world number nine Paula Badosa has withdrawn from the tournament through injury. This means that her opponent, Veronika Kudermetova, will now face Cristina Bucsa, which is set to start imminently.

Follow that game right here.

09:55 CET – Plenty more big battles to look forward to today, and one that has the looks of a good contest is world number two Alex Zverev against Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista-Agut.

Zverev is chasing the world number one spot for the first time in his career, and given the current occupant of that spot, Jannik Sinner, is still out through a doping ban, it is a golden opportunity for the German to claim top spot.

To do that, he needs to see off Bautista-Agut, who he has beaten five times in seven matches. But that decent ratio slims on clay, with the Spaniard winning one of their clashes on the surface.

That came all the way back in 2013, so the smart money is on last week’s champion from Munich.

Can Zverev keep up his good form? Find out from 14:00 CET.

09:00 CET – Good morning and welcome back to Flashscore’s Tennis Tracker for second-round action from the Madrid Open.

Plenty of big hitters take to the clay in the Spanish capital today, including world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who takes on Anna Blinkova

The Belarusian was stunned by Jelena Ostapenko in the Stuttgart final last week, but she has a good history in this tournament, having won it twice in 2021 and 2023.

This year, she has been in great form too, winning 25 of her 30 matchups and her head-to-head against Blinkova is three to zero in her favour. Can Blinkova provide a shock? Follow the game here.

Meanwhile, Casper Ruud opens up the day by taking on Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. The former French Open finalist has three wins from five games on this surface so far this year as he continues to drop down the rankings.

See whether he can arrest that slide today – follow the game from 11:00 CET.
