Thanks for being with us today.
Tim Tszyu has won against this dangerous American rival, who didn’t quite look at the races today to be honest.
But it’s a big win because it puts him back on track after two devastating defeats.
The plan seems to be that he will face Keith Thurman later this year, probably in Australia.
Then, he wants a rematch against Fundora. He wants his belt back that, frankly, was taken from him after a freak injury.
It was a vastly improved display from Tszyu.
Keith Thurman will provide another challenge though. A different challenge. A tougher challenge.
Thanks for being with me, I’ll catch you again next time.

He still hasnt beaten anyone really
– Haydon Cooper
It’s a tough one, because there are, obviously, a lot of fighters at this weight.
There’s an argument to be made that he’s been well matched before his move over to the States.
But he’s been a world champion. You don’t become a world champion at these weights by beating nobody.

He might be able to have a rematch with the Russian
– Joe
He is talking a lot about Keith Thurman though, so I think that’s the one that’s next off the rank to be honest.
He has just told Main Event that he would like the Fundora rematch too.
No mention of Murtazaliev.

Tim Tszyu is talking to Main Event now.
“It’s just a lot off the chest,” Tszyu is telling Main Event now.
“I was expecting him to come at me, but once he stood still that’s when I felt like I was in control.
“I started feeling him.
“When you have that jab that’s going through the middle, you have the control.”
He says he’s surprised that Spencer didn’t go down under that barrage of punches.
He adds that he’s thrilled that he was able to come back from the consecutive defeats.
“You rise from that, hopefully it’s an example to a lot of people,” he says.
He now wants Keith Thurman, saying that it would be “a hell of a fight”.
“That would be a different fight,” he says.
“What I did tonight, I can’t do against Keith.”

It was a mercy, because looking at the replay, Spencer was being pounded into oblivion there.

Oh wow, how happy does Tim Tszyu look.
“No pressure man, I’m happy,” he says as everyone around him smiles.
“Actually yeah there was a bit of pressure,” he then adds.
“I hope I learned, that if they drop and go on the floor, when shit hits the fan, you can always get up and come back.”
What was the hardest experience of this fight?
“Last night’s weight cut was a hell of an experience,” Tszyu says, looking a bit haunted in honesty.
“The critics, they’re always going to be there, but I proved it to everyone in the world, I’m back.”
Now the important bit.
“I learned from my mistakes,” he says.
“You don’t go in like a hot head from the first round and just abandon everything.
“I learned my lesson.”
He credits Joey Spencer as “one hell of an opponent”.
Spencer, hanging on the ropes in the corner, smiles and puts his thumbs up in front of a face that looks like it’s been slapped repeatedly by concrete.
Tszyu has a message for Keith Thurman as well.
“Sign the contract big boy…”

The smile is as wide as the Harbour Bridge.
Relief? Perhaps.
But that was so much better from Tim Tszyu.
There was defence. There was patience.
Perfect.

Spencer darts out a couple of jabs.
Both men seem patient to start – I like this from Tszyu, he already looks like the man I last saw in the flesh on the Gold Coast – studious and yet in control.

Hood up over his head.
Tim Tszyu is stalking through the backstage area, solo for now.
He’s gone outside, and now is in the main arena.
The crowd are standing in anticipation as Tszyu is shown on the big screen, a lengthy walk, making the 25-year-old stew as he waits in the ring.
And now he emerges, in silhouette behind a poster bearing his name.
An air raid siren goes off, before Land Down Under plays and Tszyu appears in the flesh, walking to the ring amidst a maze of hands reaching out to wish him well.

Pretty subdued entry for the American.

Tim Tszyu and Joey Spencer both made the weight at yesterday’s weigh in, with Tszyu tipping the scales at 69.86kg and Spencer at 69.74.
However, both men will be considerably heavier when they step into the ring later on.
Tszyu told reporters in Newcastle that he would top 80 kilos when he walks into the ring “easy”.
This is different to his last fight against Bakhram Murtazaliev, where both fighters were subject to so-called rehydration clauses that meant neither man could put on more than 10 pounds (4.54kg) between the first “official” weigh in and a subsequent weigh in on the morning of the fight.
(No Limit Boxing)
Tszyu told reporters that he was happy he didn’t have to lose much more than he had to and that getting down to the super welterweight limit was getting hard.
“It ain’t easy getting down to this weight on my side, and probably ain’t easy on his side,” Tszyu said.
“But I’m already, right now standing here [on Saturday afternoon], heavier than what I was in Orlando.
“[There’s a] Big difference [from Orlando], there’s not another battle to go through.
“A lot of times the weight cut is a battle, and then [with IBF title fights] there’s the next battle with another weigh in.
“I don’t know why they do it, but I’m glad it’s not on for this one.
“I’m filled out. I feel strong.”
Spencer, whose last three fights have been at the middleweight limit (72.6kg instead of 69.86kg) said he would be the heavier man in the ring.

Humble. Quiet. Confident.
All those words could be used to describe the 25-year-old Michigan native Joey Spencer.
A damn good boxer would also be a fair description.
A tremendous Fox Sports piece on Spencer painted a picture of a man comfortable with the simple things in life in rural, small-town America, but with a thirst for success that can only be found in the ring.
A nine-time national amateur champion in the USA and a rising star of the division, Spencer has a professional record of 19-1, with 11 knock outs on his resume.
His only defeat came against world ranked Jesus Alejandro Ramos Jr, who is now the WBA mandatory challenger.
Since that defeat, Spencer has stepped up to the middleweight division, winning all three of his contests at the higher weight.
Has that experience with the bigger men added to his power and punch resistance?
Has the weight cut to get back down to the super welterweight limit of 70kg taken too much out of him?
