Tim Tszyu returned to winning ways in “Tszyucastle.”
The former WBO super welterweight world champion stopped Joey Spencer in Round 4 of his comeback fight Saturday night at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

Tszyu (25-2, 18 KOs) had a 2024 campaign that he would likely prefer to forget. The Australian was beaten both times he entered the ring — and both in world title fights. A nightmarish cut saw him lose his WBO championship to Sebastian Fundora in March 2024, and then Tszyu was on the wrong end of a brutal demolition against IBF titlist Bakhram Murtazaliev in October.
In Saturday’s return bout, Michigan’s Spencer (19-2, 11 KOs) won the opening round against a tentative Tszyu, who was content to not throw many punches and just ease his way into the contest. Tszyu increased the tempo in the second and third rounds, finding repeated success with his lead left hook. At the end of Round 3, the action started to heat up as Tszyu and Spencer exchanged punches in the center of the ring.

Tszyu shook Spencer with a right uppercut to left hook combination early in the fourth frame and continued his success into the round’s second minute, putting his punches together against Spencer. Tszyu backed Spencer up onto the ropes with an onslaught and overwhelmed him with a barrage of punches, which forced Spencer’s corner to throw in the towel and pull its man out of the fight.
“Sign the contract, big boy. Sign the contract,” Tszyu said in his post-fight callout of Keith Thurman.
“If the fans want it, we can bring a mega-show to Australia. The boys at No Limit, you know who to contact, and we’ll do a big show here [in Australia].”

Thurman made his Australian debut in March, knocking out Brock Jarvis in the third round in a fight that ended a three-year layoff for the former unified welterweight champion. A July 6 date on the Gold Coast has already been reserved by Aussie promoters, No Limit Boxing, for a potential Tszyu vs. Thurman clash.
