The aisles at Trader Joe’s are going to be busier than usual this week.
Mini canvas tote bags are hitting store shelves as early as Tuesday in four pastel shades. The viral mini canvas totes resulted in frenzied shopping and long lines last year. They quickly sold out, with online resellers getting 10 times and more over the $2.99 retail price.
The mini canvas tote bags were available at the McCarran location at 8 a.m. The location will receive 1,800 bags and will likely stock a second batch in the evening, a crewmember told the RGJ monday.
On Wednesday, the McCarran location will receive another six cases of the bags, the crewmember said..
The Summit and Sparks stores are expected to receive the bags during their deliveries of dry goods at 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the crewmember. These locations may stock the bags Tuesday evening, but are likely to have the bags available for purchase on Wednesday morning.

The bags will again sell for $2.99 each. The bags will be limited to two of each color per customer at most locations. The bags come in pink, blue, purple and green versions.
Trader Joe’s locations in Reno-Sparks
There are three Trader Joe’s in the Reno-Sparks area. The most recent location, on Los Altos Parkway, opened in October 2024.
- South Reno Trader Joe’s — 13945 S. Virginia St., Shayden Summit mall.
- Reno Trader Joe’s — 5035 S. McCarran Blvd.
- Sparks Trader Joe’s — 185 Los Altos Pkwy., Sparks
What about other viral Trader Joe’s bags?
Trader Joe’s mini insulated totes came out in February in pink and purple. Sales of the $3.99 bag were limited to two per customer at the McCarran location. On the day of release, they were selling online for around $30 to $40 for a set of two.
A large purple insulated cooler that was released in February was available for weeks after its release for $7.99 at Reno Trader Joe’s locations.
When will the viral Trader Joe’s micro totes be back?
The micro tote, a small keychain that holds a nylon grocery bag, sold out during the holiday season but is expected to return in December, according to a crew member at the McCarran location.
