Ariya Jutanugarn and Ruoning Yin were cruising along Sunday during the final round of the Chevron Championship when their tee shots on the par-4 11th hole ended side-by-side in the rough at the Club at Carlton Woods in Texas.
You can watch the video here to see the interaction.
The odd thing is that, in the video, you can hear NBC Sports commentator Paige Mackenzie say that she overheard Yin and her caddie say that this is the fourth time it’s happened this year. Mackenzie and analyst Morgan Pressel both said they can’t think of one time that it ever happened in each of their respective careers.
No worry on the ruling. Rule 14.2(d) discusses where a ball should be replaced when something like this happens. One player picks up the ball, the other player hits and the first player who originally moved the ball is entitled to replace the back to a similar spot “not nearer the hole.”
Both players ended up making par and stayed at the top of the leaderboard. Jutanugarn, 29, is a two-time major champion. Yin, 22, won the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
