Martha Stewart and José Andrés are dishing on their hot takes.
Ahead of the celebrity chefs’ new NBC show Yes, Chef!, which premieres on Monday, April 28 at 10 p.m., the cohosts gave their opinions on various culinary questions in a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE.
First up was one of the most debated prompts: is a hot dog a sandwich?
For Stewart, the answer was easy. “Well, it’s two pieces of bread with something in between,” she said matter-of-factly. Andrés shared his thoughts on the barbecue staple.
“If you have some foie gras, helps. If you have some caviar helps,” he explained of good toppings, Stewart piping in and saying, “Cheese.” Despite his critiques, the World Central Kitchen founder admitted to loving hot dogs.

When asked if it is okay to lick beaters, Stewart replied, “Well, there are ways to lick the beaters that don’t necessarily use your tongue. You use your fingers. You don’t have to put your tongue on the beater. Right?” Andrés didn’t have anything to say on the matter: “I don’t even know what the beater is.”
“I’m learning so much English in this show!” the restaurateur laughed.
The pair was asked if it is ever okay to yell in the kitchen, a characteristic of chefs that viewers have seen in other competition series or TV shows like The Bear.
Stewart explained a scenario that is worth of yelling: “When you have your KitchenAid mixers on at high speed, kneading the bread, you have to yell,” she said. “I’m always accused of raising my voice, and it’s usually because there’s other ambient noise around me.”
Andrés said that chefs shouldn’t be shouting but that he sometimes needs reminders from other people. “I have people around me that tells me, ‘No way, José.’ That started by my wife, my daughters, many of the chefs, cooks, managers I work with,” he described. “So it helps when you have good friends that tell you, ‘No way, José.’
Yes, Chef! sees 12 competing chefs who were nominated by their bosses, coworkers, friends and family. They are challenged to overcome hot tempers with advice from the two hosts to win the top prize of $250,000 and “become the best version of themselves,” Andrés told PEOPLE.
Yes, Chef! premieres on Monday, April 28, at 10 p.m. on NBC following The Voice.
