INDIANAPOLIS — While much of the fallout from the postgame fracas following the Pacers’ Game 5 series-clinching win over the Bucks on Tuesday has focused on the confrontation between Tyrese Haliburton’s father John and the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, the other confrontation that turned much more physical hasn’t been discussed nearly as much.
A pushing and shoving match between the two teams also broke out after an exchange between Antetokounmpo and Pacers third-year wing. After Antetokounmpo’s exchange with John Haliburton ended, he was exchanging handshakes with other Pacers players. When he saw Mathurin, he wrapped his right hand around the back of Mathurin’s head and started to whisper something in his left ear. Mathurin seemed agitated by that and started to push Antetokounmpo off of him and the two got heated and players from both sides came in to separate them.
Antetokounmpo did not address that incident in his post-game press conference though he discussed the confrontation with John Haliburton at length. Mathurin left the locker room before media arrived on Tuesday. He discussed the incident briefly after practice on Friday but didn’t provide much in the way of detail as to why things got heated.
“It’s nothing,” Mathurin said. “It’s just competitive. Two competitors. He’s a great player. We went out there, we chopped it up. He’s a great guy.”
Mathurin was askedif Antetokounmpo bothered him by putting his hand around his head.

“It don’t bother me,” Mathurin said. “No sir. Nothing in this world can bother me. I’m alive. I’m blessed. I’m healthy. You know what I’m saying? I’m proud of myself, the way I conducted myself. It could’ve been a lot worse. I feel like I did a pretty good job over there.”
