When will Craig Melvin return to ‘Today’ show? Latest on host’s absence

  • Craig Melvin is taking a vacation break from the ‘Today’ show and will return afterward.

Craig Melvin is taking a short break from the “Today” show, just months after stepping into his new role as co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie.

Melvin, who officially joined Guthrie for the 7 and 8 a.m. hours of “Today” in November following Hoda Kotb’s departure, is currently on vacation for Easter break with his family. Guthrie shared the news of his temporary hiatus during the April 10 broadcast.

“Craig’s taking a little Easter break with the kids,” Guthrie said during the show. Melvin and his wife, sportscaster Lindsay Czarniak, have two children — son Delano and daughter Sybil — who have previously made appearances on set, including a surprise visit during Melvin’s first day as co-anchor.

While Melvin is away, veteran sports commentator Mike Tirico will step in as guest co-host. On April 14, the show welcomed Tirico with a compilation of behind-the-scenes clips, including moments of him lip-syncing outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza and sharing an on-air toast with Guthrie.

“A warm TODAY welcome to @miketiriconbc! He’ll be co-hosting with Savannah all week while Craig spends Easter break with his family,” the show’s official Instagram account posted.
