This delicious tofu chocolate mousse has over 65 grams of protein. It’s silky smooth, absolutely delicious, and ready in less than five minutes. So easy and SO GOOD!

When you’re searching for a vegan dessert, you probably aren’t expecting to see tofu among its ingredients. Well, let me tell you, you’re missing out!

One of tofu’s signature qualities is its neutral flavor. It is both the biggest complaint about tofu, and its biggest advantage! Sure, it means you can’t simply gobble tofu on its own. However, it also means that you can make it taste like anything you want!

This tofu chocolate mousse is the perfect example. The use of tofu gives this dessert its thick, creamy texture, and a huge amount of plant-based protein per serving! And if you didn’t know that this mousse contained tofu, you would never have guessed it.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • The protein comes from two different sources: tofu and vegan chocolate protein powder. My fav is the KOS brand, which makes this mousse taste indulgent yet light at the same time. Psst, I even have a discount code for you. Use PLANTYOU20 for 20% off sitewide!
  • FIVE MINUTES. That’s all it takes. Blend your ingredients until smooth, and you have a delicious, protein-packed, creamy chocolate mousse!
  • Awesome for meal prep, last-minute dessert, or a post-workout treat. I’m telling you, once you try this tofu chocolate mousse, you’ll be making this at least once a week!
  • As far as desserts go, this one is vegan, refined sugar-free, and overall pretty healthy! It’s also nut-free, keeping it friendly to our friends with nut allergies.

How to Make This Recipe

Add all of the ingredients to the blender. This includes tofu, protein powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, coconut milk, and a pinch of salt.

I would recommend breaking tofu up into rough chunks before you throw it in. Once you blend everything together, you will be able to see if your dessert needs a little bit of extra liquid (plant milk) if it is struggling to blend.

Although if you have a quality high-speed blender, it should be able to combine the ingredients without any issues. Personally, I swear by Ninja kitchen appliances, including their amazing blenders. Best of all, you get amazing quality without going bankrupt!

Benefits of Tofu

  • Nutritional Value. Tofu is a good source of plant-based protein, containing all nine essential amino acids necessary for the body’s proper functioning. It is also rich in minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc, as well as vitamins like vitamin B1, B2, and E.
  • Heart Health. Tofu is low in saturated fat and cholesterol-free, making it a heart-healthy protein option. Regular consumption of tofu has been associated with lower levels of bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) and reduced risk of heart disease.
  • Bone Health. Tofu is an excellent plant-based source of calcium, a vital mineral for maintaining strong bones and teeth. It is particularly beneficial for individuals following a plant-based or dairy-free diet who may have a higher risk of calcium deficiency.
  • Digestive Health. Tofu is a good source of dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and promotes bowel regularity. It can contribute to a healthy digestive system and help prevent conditions such as constipation.
  • Versatility and Culinary Uses. As proven by this tofu chocolate mousse recipe, it is a versatile ingredient that can be prepared in various ways.

Myth Busters: Tofu Edition

It’s important to differentiate between myths and facts when it comes to tofu. There are a few common misconceptions or false myths surrounding tofu. Let’s address some of them:

  • Tofu is only for vegetarians or vegans. While tofu is a popular protein source for vegetarians and vegans, it is not limited to these dietary preferences. Tofu can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their dietary choices, as it is a versatile ingredient that can be incorporated into a variety of dishes.
  • Tofu contains high levels of estrogen. Some people mistakenly believe that tofu contains high amounts of estrogen and may disrupt hormone balance. However, the estrogen-like compounds found in tofu, called isoflavones, are phytoestrogens, which are plant-based compounds with a weaker estrogenic effect than human estrogen. Consuming moderate amounts of tofu as part of a balanced diet is unlikely to have a significant impact on hormone levels.
  • Tofu is tasteless and bland. Tofu itself has a mild flavor, which allows it to absorb the flavors of other ingredients in a dish. It can be marinated, seasoned, or cooked with spices and sauces to enhance its taste. With proper preparation and cooking techniques, tofu can be delicious and flavorful.
  • Tofu is genetically modified. While genetically modified soybeans do exist, it’s important to note that not all tofu is made from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). To ensure you’re consuming non-GMO tofu, look for products that are labeled as such.
  • Tofu is not a complete protein. Tofu is considered a complete protein as it contains all essential amino acids required by the body. It is an excellent plant-based protein source that can contribute to meeting your daily protein needs.
