De Minaur hands out double bagel to Dimitrov in Monte-Carlo

Alex de Minaur handed out a humiliation to Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters, with a double bagel wrapped up in less than 45 minutes – 6-0, 6-0, completed on his first match point.

It is De Minaur’s first-ever win by that scoreline in a completed match.

He is now into his second ATP Masters 1000 semi-final after making the final in Toronto two years ago.

“It’s an amazing feeling, especially with the troubles I had at the start of my career on this surface,” he said afterwards.

“I’m very happy that I’m playing better and better every year.”

Dimitrov hit one winner – on his forehand – and 23 unforced errors. De Minaur won 75 per cent of points on his first serve, and 80 per cent on his second.

He will play either Lorenzo Musetti or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final.

The Australian continues to lead the ATP Tour for most wins this season, now with 20.
