‘F1’ Trailer: Brad Pitt Throws Caution Flag To The Wind In Apple’s Car-Racing Epic

Apple has released the official trailer for F1 starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Sarah Niles and more as the action drama nears the the starting line for its June 27 release in U.S. theaters and Imax.

Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo also star in the film, with Bridgerton star Simone Ashley featuring as well in the pic directed by Joseph Kosinski and penned by Ehren Kruger that was shot in part during actual Grand Prix races and has the backing of the Formula 1 series.

Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, Formula 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Bardem), owner of a struggling team on the verge of collapse, who convinces Sonny to take one last shot at saving the team and becoming the best in the world. His past is tough to outrace, though, and his biggest competition might be his own teammate, the hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce (Idris).

The trailer, chock-full of stunning racing footage, highlights the friction between the Sonny and Joshua, with a bit of a Bull Durham vibe of the veteran coming in to teach the kid phenom a thing or two. “He’s old, he’s such a prick … he’s quick though,” Idris’ Joshua says.

Top Gun: Maverick dynamic duo Jerry Bruckheimer and Kosinski are reteaming on the Apple Original Films pick, trading the skies for the race track. The project was made in partnership with Formula 1 and its 10 teams, and Kosinski called those behind the action flick “the eleventh team” in an exclusive interview with Deadline.
