JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The K8 Storm Team warns more severe weather could be in store for Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.
Friday is expected to turn warmer and more conducive for severe storms and potentially tornadoes,” said Meteorologist Kristina Balentine.
(KAIT)
Balentine said, “We could start seeing severe weather in our Ozark counties by 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Our severe threat goes down by midnight, but we’ll have the potential to see gusty wind, large hail, and tornadoes, some could be strong.”
“Saturday, the main severe threat could be some gusty wind, but flooding will be the main issue,” Balentine said. “We are still expecting 6-12 inches of rainfall by the time this system moves out Sunday, and most of that will likely fall Friday night and Saturday.”

FLOODING THREAT
Severe storms are not the only threat facing Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.
“Once the rain starts, it will not stop until Sunday,” said Balentine. “In that time, we could see 6-12 inches of rainfall across Region 8.”

“We will need to keep an eye on river levels as heavy rain is still expected each day through Saturday,” Balentine said.
On Thursday, Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell “strongly encouraged” residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate before Friday afternoon.
“Please note that a window will exist during which assistance will be unavailable once waters reach a critical level,” he said. “This situation and proper preparations should be made accordingly.”
The National Weather Service offices in Little Rock and Memphis have issued River Flood Warnings and a ‘Particularly Dangerous Situation’ Flood Watch in anticipation of excessive rainfall over the next few days.
