Four 3rd Infantry Division soldiers reported missing in Lithuania

FORT STEWART, Ga. (WTOC) – Four soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, are missing in Lithuania in a training area near Pabradė.

According to a release from the U.S. Army Europe and Africa division, the soldiers were conducting tactical training when they went missing. They were operating a M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle at the time.

The vehicle has been found submerged in a body of water in the training area.

The U.S. Army, Lithuanian Armed Forces, Lithuanian law enforcement, and others are conducting search and recovery efforts for the soldiers.

In a statement, Lt. Gen. Charles Costanza, the V Corps commanding general, said:

“I would like to personally thank the Lithuanian Armed Forces and first responders who quickly came to our aid in our search operations. It’s this kind of teamwork and support that exemplifies the importance of our partnership and our humanity regardless of what flags we wear on our shoulders.”

The families of the soldiers are being informed of any updates by the 3rd Infantry Division.
