The 50501 Movement, a group opposed to the actions of Donald Trump’s administration and the Project 2025 agenda, will again host nationwide protests and rallies Saturday including ones in Houston and Galveston.
The movement is also known as “50 states, 50 protests, one day,” and grew from a discussion on social media platform Reddit into a nationwide mobilization. The first major 50501 Movement took place Feb. 5, urging supporters to gather in the nation’s state capitols. Protests also took place on Presidents Day, titled “Not My Presidents Day.”

Locally the 50501 Houston Coalition hosts the “Be Someone” rally from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Houston’s city hall, 901 Bagby Street. A Galveston rally will also take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at McGuire Dent Recreation Center – South Side, 2222 28th Street.
The Galveston event also features a half-mile march on the seawall.

“Join the 50501 Houston Coalition as we rally under the motto ‘Be Someone’ to defend democracy against what we call the Trump administration’s hostile takeover,” according to organizers of 50501 Houston Coalition on Facebook. “This grassroots movement is part of a nationwide effort to mobilize 12.5 million people — 3.5% of the U.S. population — a critical threshold for nonviolent action to effect meaningful change.”

Organizers are also asking supporters to bring food donations to the Houston rally in solidarity with the nonprofit Meals on Wheels that provides food to seniors.

“We are asking our community donate to Meals on Wheels since they face budget cuts because of Trump’s funding cuts to food programs,” according to a rally description. “Meals on Wheels serves over 2,300 elderly in Harris County and over 800 people in Galveston. 60% of Meals on Wheels budget comes from government grants, and 40% from individual donations.”
People can register to attend Saturday at a 50501 Houston Coalition link.
Other rallies will take place in major Texas cities Saturday, including Austin, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Lubbock and Waco. The Austin event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Texas Capitol south lawn, 1100 Congress Ave.

Events are also planned in smaller Texas communities including Brenham, Luling, Boerne, Kerrville, Victoria, Bastrop and others. More than 400 events across the country are planned including rallies, protests, food drives and nature cleanups, as reported by media platform Axios.

The name 50501 comes from the idea of having 50 synchronized events in 50 states on the same day. Early in 2025, the effort merged with the group Political Revolution, according to Newsweek. This group was formed to support Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign, according to Newsweek’s report.

Additionally supporters are opposed to Project 2025, a conservative-leaning agenda meant to restructure the executive branch, according to information from the American Civil Liberties Union.
