Houston Police say 14 people are injured and one person is dead after shooting in Southeast Houston

According to Houston Police, officers were dispatched to the area of 6000 Cherry Hill after reports that multiple people had been shot.

Investigators said when they arrived at the scene they heard gunshots and found multiple victims injured outside of a home.

Officers coordinated a triage area to begin treating and transporting victims.

Investigators said 14 people were injured, three were transported from the scene by EMS and others were self-transported to local hospitals.

One person was pronounced deceased, and several others remain in critical condition in surgery, according to police.

Preliminary information indicates that the shooting started after an uninvited guest arrived at a family barbecue. Investigators said the uninvited guest was asked to leave and as he was leaving, he opened fire. Police said there was return fire from the residence in response.

According to HPD Assistant Chief Cantu, HPD has multiple people detained for questioning. It’s unclear if the shooter is among the group being questioned.
