After the Kansas City Chiefs’ devastating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at the 2025 Super Bowl, football fans and Swifties alike were left wondering whether Taylor Swift would be back in the stands at Arrowhead Stadium next season as Travis Kelce mulled over a potential retirement from football. However, the tight end recently confirmed he’ll be returning to be Swift’s “guy on the Chiefs” a little longer, and the “Blank Space” singer reportedly swayed Kelce’s decision to come back for another football season.
Before Kelce confirmed he’s still with the Chiefs on February 27, the athlete “definitely discussed” the situation with Swift “as a couple” behind the scenes, a source told Page Six. The Grammy Award-winning singer was reportedly a strong support system for Kelce as he processed the Super Bowl’s 40-22 end result–and she encouraged him to give the game another shot.

“She didn’t want Travis to retire,” the insider told the publication, adding, “She wanted him to go out on a high note.” While it was ultimately Kelce’s call—“He has to be able to physically do it,” the insider explained—Swift was “happy [with his decision]” and is reportedly planning to be in the stands cheering her boyfriend come fall.

Kelce officially confirmed that he was back for his 13th year in the NFL in a February statement shared during Pat McAfee’s ESPN show. “I’m coming back, for sure,” his announcement read. The athlete also mentioned his disappointing 2024 football season, adding, “Gonna try and get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that.”

Kelce previously shared that Swift was hoping he wouldn’t hang up his football uniform during a January appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show. The football player revealed that Swift “loves coming” and “cheering” him on at games, telling the host “She’s fully encouraging me to enjoy playing this game. I got all the support in the world to keep chasing these dreams.”
