After a very entertaining and dramatic win over Inter Miami in leg one of the Concacaf Champions Cup, LAFC are back in MLS action, in what is the most trap game ever. The team are set to hit the road for another brief road trip, with the first stop being Houston to take on the Dynamo this evening. Fresh off a massive win, but with the second leg of Champions Cup just days away, LAFC will need to balance getting rest for key players, with making sure the squad they put is still strong enough to avoid what would be a massive upset on the road.

There isn’t much to say about the Dynamo coming into this match. They remain one of five clubs in the MLS still without a win. They have scored amongst the lowest amount of goals this season so far (4) and have have conceded second-most goals this season (11). You have to go back all the way to October of last year to find the last Dynamo win, a 2-1 upset over eventual MLS Champions LA Galaxy, who are also winless this season. Everything about this matchup just screams easy three points for LAFC, which is arguably the scariest prospect, especially knowing the rotated squad ahead of the midweek Champions Cup match, is coming.
“Honestly I’m just trying to win in Houston. Im not too concerned with next Wednesday yet” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of this match. “Part of fielding a team is looking at amount of minutes, freshness, certain matchups against the opponent, what qualities are important against Houston, what qualities are not important. All of those factors go into the decision making process to field a team, we believe, at this point in our season, gives us the best chance to win.”
LAFC hold the overall advantage over Houston with a 6-6-4 record (W-D-L) but you have to go back to 2023 to find the last time LAFC got the win over the Dynamo, which might be a bit concerning considering this match is on the road. Coming off the big win at home over Miami, LAFC are still a team looking to find more consistency this season with their performances and results, and tonight is a big chance to do that. It’s hard to say who gets the start tonight, and how long they are out there. Usually we would expect to see some of the younger players, but with guys like Ordaz, Martinez and others being the heavy lifters this year, we might see the likes of Bouanga take the pitch or even a Giroud sighting as both try and get their goalscoring going for 2025. Whoever is out there, will need to do well to avoid the upset. They might be one of the worst teams in the league, but they are still professionals, and they would love nothing more than to get their first win at the expense of LAFC.
