NFL Mourns Death Of Super Bowl Playmaker at 51

The NFL is in mourning as a result of the death of a former Super Bowl champion playmaker, Matt Stevens, who has passed away at 51 years old.

Stevens played in the NFL from 1996-2003, starting as a third-round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills and then continuing a career that featured a six-interception season with Washington in 1999 and a Super Bowl victory in 2001 with the New England Patriots.

Sadly, Stevens was involved in a motorcycle accident in 2007 that resulted in him being paralyzed from the waist down.

Stevens was a standout in college as a two-time Appalachian State All-American and was inducted into the App State Athletics Hall of Fame.

He was initially a walk-on at the school.

Stevens played for five teams before retiring in 2003. … with stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans as well.

Stevens developed a pro reputation as a hard-hitting safety and a standout on special teams ace.

Matt is survived by his mother Jean Thillberg, his father Vincent Stevens, his brother Mark and his two children, Cassidie and Colin. More information on Stevens’ memorial service can be found here.
