New Jersey wildfire swells to more than 8,000 acres, prompting evacuations and closing a major highway

A wildfire that began yesterday in New Jersey grew to 8,500 acres and prompted a shutdown of nearly 20 miles of the Garden State Parkway, a major highway, officials said. About 3,000 people have been told to evacuate in Ocean County and 1,320 structures were threatened, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said. No deaths or injuries have been reported, and the fire was 10% contained as of Tuesday night, officials said.
