Jayden Daniels attended the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament to support JuJu Watkins, sparking speculation about their relationship. The moment turned viral when Daniels’ mother, Regina Jackson, humorously intervened by sitting between them. Jackson, known for protecting her son from distractions, drew mixed reactions. Watkins, an accomplished athlete herself, isn’t seen as someone seeking Daniels’ fame.
Jayden Daniels, the dynamic quarterback of the Washington Commanders, found himself at the center of an unexpected social media discussion during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in Los Angeles. Daniels, who recently led his team to the NFC Championship Game and earned the prestigious Rookie of the Year award, was in attendance to support the USC Trojans and their star player, JuJu Watkins. However, what was meant to be a simple courtside appearance quickly turned into a viral moment—thanks to Daniels’ ever-watchful mother, Regina Jackson.
Daniels and Watkins, both celebrated figures in their respective sports, were spotted engaging in what appeared to be a lighthearted and friendly conversation. Their bright smiles and easy chemistry led to immediate speculation from fans about a possible romantic connection. The moment was caught on ESPN cameras, fueling curiosity among NFL and college basketball fans alike.
But just as things seemed to be going well between the two young stars, Daniels’ mother stepped in—literally. Regina Jackson took a seat between her son and Watkins, seemingly putting an abrupt end to their interaction. Her no-nonsense demeanor left fans amused, confused, and, in some cases, critical of her involvement.
Social media was quick to react to this, with many calling Jackson’s intervention unnecessary. Some fans found her presence overbearing, considering Daniels is a 24-year-old professional athlete more than capable of making his own decisions.
For those familiar with Regina Jackson, her actions didn’t come as a surprise. She has long been vocal about shielding her son from potential distractions, especially when it comes to relationships.
In a widely discussed segment from The Money Game—a Prime Video documentary that followed LSU athletes navigating NIL deals—Jackson made her stance crystal clear. When asked about her biggest concern regarding Daniels’ transition to the NFL, she didn’t hesitate.
“Girls. Them girls,” she said bluntly, implying that some women might pursue Daniels solely for his money and status.
“Some girl out here, she’s got a Jayden Daniels wall and her mama says, ‘Hey, honey, you’re going to be the one to get ‘em.’ And I know that sounds crazy, but I guarantee there’s someone who’s trying to get their hooks into Jayden Daniels,” she added.
Daniels himself has acknowledged his mother’s protective nature. “Nothing gets past my mama,” he admitted. “She reads people, she doesn’t want to put people around me that she doesn’t feel will benefit me.”
While Jackson’s concerns might be understandable from a mother’s perspective, JuJu Watkins hardly fits the mold of someone looking to capitalize on Daniels’ success. At just 19, she is already one of the most talented players in women’s college basketball, boasting a lucrative Nike endorsement deal and an NIL valuation reportedly approaching $1 million. In other words, she brings her own level of fame, skill, and financial security to the table.
Perhaps it’s time for Jackson to loosen the reins just a little. While every mother wants the best for her child, Daniels is an adult with the ability to make his own choices—both on and off the field.
