ForbesNYT Connections Hints And Answers For Wednesday, April 9By Kris HoltHey, folks! I hope you’re having a great week.

I don’t like to cook. I can cook, as long as I’m following a recipe (my improvisational skills in the kitchen are non-existent), but as much as I’ve tried to embrace this art, I don’t enjoy it. Breakfast and occasional baking, I’m up for. But everything else, nope.

I’m a horribly slow cook and I don’t like how much time it takes out of my day to prepare food. I can probably count on both hands the number of times I’ve cooked a proper dinner since moving into my own place about 19 months ago.

Instead, I rely on a service that delivers six ready-to-warm-up meals once a week. I either order something, go to a restaurant or prepare something really simple to make up the difference. The price of this convenience is not too high and I really like that everything is already portioned. Portion control has always been an issue for me.

If you enjoy cooking, that’s wonderful. And if you ever come to my place, I’ll probably cook for you. My point is that there are often better solutions than toughing it out and doing things we don’t enjoy. They don’t necessarily have to cost a whole lot more either, but I’d happily pay a little more to free up all that cooking and clean-up time.

Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.

It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up since I don’t look at the comments or Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, April 10, are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — shades of yellow (CANARY, GOLD, LEMON, MUSTARD)

  • Blue group — anti-spirit of Christmas (BAH, COAL, GRINCH, NAUGHTY)

That’s a 44th win in a row for yours truly. Not a perfect game, but I’m happy with it. Here’s how I fared:

The “CANARY in a COAL MINE” reference on the top line was cute. Still, the yellows jumped out at me immediately.

I then thought that GOY, GUSTO, MINE and ELLA might form a group of words that mean “belonging to me” in different languages. I didn’t know for sure and was one away from a group there. So I thought it would be best to move on.

Like a pro Call of Duty player, I expertly took out the blues next with laser-like focus (…I don’t know where that came from). COAL is what NAUGHTY children traditionally receive at Christmas rather than toys. BAH is part of the expression “bah, humbug.” And GRINCH is, well, The Grinch.

With that group out of the way, the other two became clear. I submitted the greens since those were clear enough. That left me with the purples.

I did know that SOY and GUSTO were Spanish words, but not what they meant. My knowledge of Spanish is almost non-existent. That’s slightly embarrassing considering I was on vacation in the Dominican Republic literally a few days ago. But hey, at least I knew how to ask for beer.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Friday’s game if you need them.

P.S. Y’know, I used a Rihanna song for my recommendation yesterday but it feels appropriate to go with another one today. After all, she repeats “-ELLA” several times in “Umbrella.” Such a catchy song:

Bonus round! Here’s Tom Holland lip-syncing to the song on Lip Sync Battle. I think a lot of people fell in love with Holland the first time they saw this pretty fantastic performance:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
