Offensive Lineman Matt Pryor to Sign With the Super Bowl Champion Eagles

Matt Pryor is one-and-done with the Chicago Bears.

Pryor, who played in all 17 games for the Bears last season, is signing a one-year contract to join the Super Bowl LIX champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles are bringing back OL Matt Pryor on a one-year deal, a league source confirms the report from @jeff-mclane.bsky.social Pryor, 30, was an Eagles draft pick in 2018 and has played in 92 NFL games with 39 starts.

This counts as a return engagement for Matt Pryor and the Eagles. Philly drafted Pryor in the sixth round (206th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. After playing 27 games in his first stint in Philadelphia, Pryor made stops with the Indianapolis Colts (2021-22) and San Francisco 49ers (2023) before signing with the Bears last offseason.

WIth Matt Pryor out of the picture, this is what Chicago’s offensive line depth options look like behind the starters:

  • Kiran Amegadjie
  • Bill Murray
  • Doug Kramer Jr.
  • Ryan Bates
  • Theo Benedet
  • Jordan McFadden
  • Chris Glaser
  • Ricky Stromberg
  • Joshua Miles

Pryor’s departure means the Bears could look toward the free-agent market for another depth piece for the offensive line. Or maybe this puts someone like Kiran Amegadjie in a position to prove that they are fit for the role that Matt Pryor leaves behind. This collection of talent might be seen as the NFL offseason’s most-improved position group, but you can’t have too many useful offensive linemen.

All things considered, Matt Pryor had a solid season with the Chicago Bears. He started 15 games and played on 89 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. Pro Football Focus gave Pryor good marks for his work in Chicago, with the offensive lineman earning a 69.9 overall grade that ranked him 21st among 77 guards who played enough snaps to qualify for the PFF leaderboard. I must say that is a nice job for a player who was brought in to be a swing tackle but was forced into the starting lineup because the Nate Davis experience turned out to be a dud. Pryor played so well last season that he earned a performance-based bonus for his efforts.

Given Matt Pryor’s play, positional versatility, and overall experience, I thought it would be wise for the Bears to run it back with the offensive lineman. Instead, it is the Eagles who reel him in and bring him back to their nest. That Philadelphia — which has a knack for finding, developing, and getting the most out of offensive line talent — is bringing him in feels telling. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to come off sounding like I am overreacting to news of the Bears losing a depth offensive lineman. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Pryor has his best year in an O-line friendly system.
