Illinois freshman Morez Johnson has entered the transfer portal, per Travis Branham of 247Sports.

Johnson averaged 7.0 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 1.1 BPG in 17.7 MPG this season for the Illini. He appeared in 30 of the team’s 35 games, starting in eight. The star freshman from Riverdale, Illinois tallied three double-doubles on the year.

Johnson originally committed to Illinois in November of 2021 as a sophomore in high school. By the time he arrived in Champaign he was ranked as the top player in the state and was a consensus top-30 recruit nationally.

Johnson is the second Illini to enter the portal, following Carey Booth’s departure yesterday.
