Sam Bankman-Fried gave rare insight into Sean “Diddy” Comb’s life behind bars, claiming the disgraced musician is “nice” to all despite their “soul-crushing” reality.
Bankman-Fried, who turned 33 Thursday, conceded to The Tucker Carlson Show he has only seen “one piece” of Combs, noting their buddy-buddy jail chats may not be reflective of the musician’s true self.
“He’s been kind to people in the unit,” Bankman-Fried said. “He’s been kind to me. It’s also, it’s a position no one wants to be in, you know—obviously he doesn’t, I don’t. As you said, it’s, it’s kind of a soul crushing place for the world in general.”

Bankman-Fried told Carlson he did not plan on telling Combs about his birthday, but said others inside his so-called “hellhole” facility, the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, might do so.
The FTX founder looked skinnier than when he was arrested in December 2022 and appeared to be in good spirits. He smiled, laughed, and even cracked a joke about the long odds of him and the 55-year-old Combs ending up pals.
“You know, if someone told me three years ago, like, ‘you’ll be hanging out with with Diddy everyday,’ I’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting, I wonder how that’s gonna happen, I guess he gets into crypto or something,” Bankman-Fried said.

Bankman-Fried was not asked about the UnitedHealth CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione, who is also calling the Brooklyn facility home as he awaits trial.
Muffins, ramen noodles, and “disgusting” sardines are the “standard” currency among inmates, Bankman-Fried said, suggesting he and Combs have been forced to ditch their millions in favor of Circle K favorites.
Bankman-Fried added that, despite the MDC Brooklyn’s brutal reputation, he has not been attacked by a fellow inmate. He said the worst part about prison is how it distorts time, cuts one off from the world, and that he is especially bored because he has no meaningful project to work on.
Instead, Bankman-Fried says he spends his days playing chess against alleged armed robbers who “don’t speak English” but are shockingly good at the board game.
“I’m not saying they’re grand masters, but like, I lose games to them all the time,” he said. “I was not expecting that.”
Carlson appeared sympathetic at times to Bankman-Fried and Combs’ plight. He asked Bankman-Fried to “give our best to Diddy” and said earlier in the show that he largely opposes incarceration outright.
“I feel sorry for every man in prison, no matter what he’s accused of or did,” Carlson said. “I just, I don’t think we should be locking people away, or I know, I guess we have to, but I feel sorry for everyone in prison… Call me liberal.”
