Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson brought his social media followers to tears today, April 18, as he detailed one of the personalized autograph requests he recently received for a terminally ill fan.
The wrestler shared a video of his completed signatures on Instagram, revealing four names he’d had to cross off his list, including a man named Takeste, a teen named Elijah, a newly minted 21-year-old named Connor, and, finally, Abel, a middle-aged man battling brain cancer with a prognosis of only about eight months left to live.
“Abel, I’m honored to sign this for you. Stay strong, Brother,” Johnson wrote across a professional headshot in silver marker before signing his name.
“Autograph requests always coming across my desk,” Johnson explained, in part, in the caption of the clip. “But every once in while, I’ll get an autograph request like the last one here. It always sits me down and makes me catch my breath, as I’m never quite sure what to say. What to write.”
“I always wonder and hope this helps people,” he continued. “I hear it does but you never know. It’s the heartbreaking side of life, but the good side of fame. Where I can write to this person. I’m lucky to have him as a fan.”
Fans were touched by his transparency, with one admitting, “The last one Got me,” alongside a series of crying emojis.
“Crying between this post and the last post of you singing with the little boy in the hospital 😭😭,” someone else admitted.
“You have a great soul and a great heart🙏🏼💪🏼✌🏼,” someone else applauded, with another agreeing, “DJ, you’re the best ♥️,” and a third commenting, “Rock Respect button ✅.”
Somebody else tried to look on the positive side of things by suggesting, “Imagine how happy and excited those fans will be when the receive their autographed photo from The Rock!❤️.”
“praying for Abel ❤️ Amazing job to you for signing these for people,” another commenter commended.
“It may seem like a simple thing. But, it’s an act of unconditional love–giving expecting nothing in return. 💞,” a final fan praised.
