UK player from the UK inspires ‘Sweet’ 16 breakfast treat at Lexington restaurant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – In the UK Men’s Basketball game Sunday night, Amari Williams had eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three blocks.

Coach Mark Pope said Williams’ performance contributed to the win and credited Weetabix for his great game. Weetabix is the cereal he ate that morning, which was a staple in his English household.

Now, in true blue fashion, UK fans are selling stores out of the cereal.

That’s why DV8 is making Friday’s Sweet 16 game even sweeter with a new breakfast treat.

“I figured why not energize our true blue fans, our guests, just like Weetabix energized Amari the other night,” said Michael Harper, manager of DV8.

This idea is what led Harper to create a new Wildcat-themed cinnamon roll, with, of course, Weetabix icing.

“Apparently, the way to eat Weetabix is with warm milk,” he said. “Our take on that is, of course, our bakery fresh cinnamon roll, Weetabix cream cheese, warmed in the oven, served piping hot and fresh.”

With stores around Lexington selling out of William’s favorite cereal, Harper says their Sweet 16 cinnamon roll is how you can feel like you’re joining the cats for breakfast on Friday morning.

“It’s a hot item [Weetabix] right now. The #1 selling cereal on Amazon,” he said. “We did just like everyone else, we went to Amazon and ordered our stock of Weetabix.”

Harper says not only does it taste good, but hopefully it might be the good luck charm for the Cats game on Friday.

“I am a true blue fan, born and raised here in Lexington. Go Cats! We’re going to stop Tennessee,” he said.

This Big Blue breakfast item will be iced and ready to eat at both of their locations on Friday.
