In one kind of assault, RCB’s star opener, Phil Salt, absolutely decimated the 35-year-old Mitchell Starc for 30 runs in an over on April 10 (Thursday) against Delhi Capitals. It was a perfect start for RCB after losing the toss at their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium, with the English batter smashing Starc out of the attack.
Despite a silent start, where Salt just scored one off five balls, it was one kind of assault the next time the right-hander faced Starc. The Englishman started the third over with a massive six over the long-on region, throwing the Australian man’s plans into a state of dizziness.
Salt then followed it with a boundary through the backward point region, carving Starc one ball at a time. But the best was yet to come, as the right-hander smashed it in the gap through mid-on region.
Bad became worse when Starc overstepped, and Salt smashed the leather with a four through the mid-off region. The English opener went on to absolutely smash the free-hit delivery for a six, flying over the wicketkeeper KL Rahul’s head as all Starc could do was watch the ball. RCB reached their half-century in just three overs.
Most expensive overs by Mitchell Starc in IPL
25 runs vs SRH, Kolkata, 2024
25 runs vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2025*
21 runs vs LSG, Vizag, 2025
19 runs vs RR, Bengaluru, 2014
The over ended with a boundary as Starc conceded 30 runs in the over, including five runs off the no-ball. However, because of six extras (5 no-ball + 1 leg bye), only 25 runs were attributed to the over. It was still the joint costliest over for Starc in IPL history.
